Cycle challenge through the heart of the East Midlands for fun and charity
The Pork Pie Pedal
Charities supported in previous years
The Pork Pie Pedal has raised £87,500 for charities in its first 9 years.
This year we are supporting the Stroke association, a charity supporting people to
rebuild their lives after stroke. Most people will have had some contact with someone
who has had a stroke so this charity will strike a chord with many.
The Stroke association believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after
stroke. They provide specialist support, fund critical research and campaign to make
sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support to rebuild their
Rebuilding lives after stroke is a team effort. It takes the determination of stroke
survivors and carers, the generosity of supporters and the dedication of the healthcare
and research communities to get there.
This charity is especially important to us this year. Geoff Mellor, our friend and
a cyclist who had supported the cycle since its first year, tragically died of a
catastrophic stroke earlier this year. Geoff was 56, he was fit, exercised regularly
and ate a healthy diet. He is missed by his wife, Helen, his daughters, Lizzie and
Jenny, and his many friends. We will be cycling this year with Geoff in the forefront
of our minds.
